Pirelli has developed a new Stelvio Corsa tyre specifically for the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO. The tyre is part of Pirelli’s Collezione family, a series of tyres designed for classic vehicles made between 1950 and 1980 that have a period appearance but incorporate the latest in technology.
Pirelli says that tyres from the Pirelli Collezione range offer high levels of safety and reliability without compromising on period style and during the development of the range, Pirelli’s engineers used the same parameters that the car designers at the time worked with to complement the original suspension and mechanical characteristics.
For the Stelvio, Pirelli’s engineers worked with the tyre’s original designs from the 1950s and created an internal structure derived from Pirelli’s experience in motorsport. The tyre size for the 250 GTO is 215/70 R15 98W on the front and 225/70 R15 100W at the back. No other size is available, and no other car can use the Pirelli Stelvio Corsa.
The Ferrari GTO is one of the world’s most prized cars. Only 39 were built between 1962 and 1964 and the its rarity, and stunning looks, have made it the world’s most expensive car – in 2012 one example sold for $US38 million.
The Pirelli Collezione range will also cater for classic vehicles from Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Jaguar.
