Jon and Gina Siddins started the final day over five minutes and nine seconds clear of Keith and Mary Callinan in a 1977 Ford Escort RS1800, but the Queenslander retired early in the day with mechanical problems.
This put Barry Faux and Therezia Mihajlovic in a 1985 Mazda RX-7 into second place, a position they maintained until the end.The final podium place went to Cameron and Tania Wearing in a 1981 Triumph TR7 V8.
“This is my 15th Targa Tasmania and I’ve had podiums and wins in various classic categories along the way,” Siddins said.“We had a handy buffer after a few days so we just went fast enough after that to run with the other guys, but there’s always pressure, so you’re still worried something might break.“It probably wasn’t as hard as my other Targas, but this win is a bit special because it was the first Targa Tasmania with my wife as the navigator. She was excellent, which made it easier.“She reckons now there’s no way anyone is kicking her out now.”
Of course Jon used the dominant DUNLOP 03G, as did most of this year's winners.
